Helmintex Egg Isolation Method Highly Sensitive for Diagnosing Schistosomiasis
Compared with the Kato-Katz (KK) thick smear test and the point-of-care immunodiagnostic for detecting schistosome cathodic circulating antigen (POC-CCA) method, the Helmintex (HTX) egg isolation method is highly sensitive and should be used for diagnosing intestinal schistosomiasis, according to a study published in PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases.
Low-cost anti-hookworm drug boosts female farmers’ physical fitness
Impoverished female farm workers infected with intestinal parasites known as hookworms saw significant improvements in physical fitness when they were treated with a low-cost deworming drug. The benefits were seen even in those with low level infections, according to a study co-authored by researchers at Yale and the nonprofit company InnovationsCZ.
