Jiangsu Launches Local Standards for Schistosomiasis Prevention and Control

Recently, the local standards of Jiangxi Province, Technical Specification for Assessment of Snail Population Fluctuation and Hygienic Assessment Specification for Schistosomiasis in Engineering Projects, have been released and will be implemented on November 1 this year. These are the first local standards for schistosomiasis prevention and control issued in Jiangxi Province, filling the gap in the standardization of schistosomiasis control in the province. It is understood that the two standards were jointly compiled by the Jiangxi Institute of Parasitic Diseases and the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The Technical Specification for Assessment of Snail Population Fluctuation stipulates the responsibilities, procedures, contents and technical requirements for the assessment of snail population fluctuation. The Hygienic Assessment Specification for Schistosomiasis in Engineering Projects specifies the procedures, assessment contents and methods, risk factor analysis and response suggestions for the hygienic assessment of schistosomiasis in engineering projects. The release of these two standards marks an important step forward in the standardization of schistosomiasis control in Jiangxi Province, providing standardized guidelines for relevant prevention and control work and technical support for achieving the goal of schistosomiasis elimination.
