The expert group of the China-aided Zanzibar Schistosomiasis Prevention and Control Phase II Project held the work launching meeting for the Unguja Island pilot area at the Ministry of Health of Zanzibar, Tanzania on the 13th. Li Qianghua, Chinese Consul General in Zanzibar, Yang Kun, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Institute of Schistosomiasis Prevention and Control, Zhang Jun, Party Secretary of Zhenjiang Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Wang Lihui, Director of Danyang Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Hassan Khamis Hafid, Deputy Minister of Health of Zanzibar, Ali Omar Ali, Representative of the World Health Organization, and other relevant personnel attended the meeting. This pilot will integrate Chinas experience in schistosomiasis prevention and control, and comprehensively improve the local comprehensive schistosomiasis prevention and control capacity through the model combining environmental management and medical intervention. The officials of multiple relevant departments in Zanzibar present at the meeting had a heated discussion on how to promote the China-aided schistosomiasis prevention and control project in Zanzibar through multi-department cooperation. All participating departments stated that they would give full support to this project to help Zanzibar achieve the goal of controlling and eliminating schistosomiasis.
