The Ministry of Health and Social Services of Namibia issued a report on the 17th, stating that since the outbreak of malaria in November 2024, the country had reported a cumulative total of 76,195 malaria cases and 132 deaths as of May 11. The report stated that among the cumulative reported malaria cases, 62,388 were local cases and 13,807 were imported cases; among the deaths, children aged 5 to 9 accounted for the largest proportion, with a total of 23 cases. This epidemic is mainly concentrated in five regions including Katima Mulilo in the north and northeast of the country. Since the outbreak, relevant departments in the country have taken multiple response actions, including providing national support to the epidemic areas, managing mosquito breeding sites, and strengthening epidemic prevention and control communication and publicity through local broadcasting and community liaison. However, the epidemic response still faces many challenges. The department is currently taking targeted measures, purchasing more equipment, medicines and mosquito nets, mobilizing more transportation and deploying more personnel to contain the epidemic.
