Contributions to the lymphatic filariasis elimination programme and post-elimination surveillance in China by NIPD-CTDR

Sun Dejian, Fangyuan and others from the Institute of Parasitic Diseases of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention recently published a paper titled "Contributions to the lymphatic filariasis elimination program and post-elimination surveillance in China by NIPD-CTDR" in Advances in Parasitology. The corresponding author is Zhang Yi researcher.Lymphatic filariasis (hereinafter referred to as "filariasis") is a parasitic disease that seriously endangers human health and is listed by the World Health Organization as the second cause of disability in the world. Filariasis is also one of the parasitic diseases that my country focuses on prevention and control. Beginning in the mid-1950s and early 1970s, professionals from our institute conducted on-site surveys across the country and fully participated in two large-scale national filariasis surveys and preventions, which gave us a better understanding of the distribution and prevalence of filariasis in my country. A more comprehensive understanding. The survey found that before the implementation of the prevention and control plan, there were 864 filariasis-endemic counties (cities) with a total of 30.994 million patients with filariasis (including Bancroft filariasis and Malay filariasis), of which 25.594 million were microscopic. There are 5.4 million patients with filariasis and chronic filariasis, which provides a basis for the formulation of national filariasis prevention and control plans and the assessment and evaluation of the effectiveness of filariasis elimination.
